Life lessons to learn from this auspicious festival: Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi—the name itself sparks joy all over. All the devotees of Lord Ganesha come together irrespective of their differences and celebrate this festival with great joy and unity. People believe that Lord Ganesha visits their homes during this period. People welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes with great pomp and ceremony. Devotees offer Lord Ganesha 'Modak' which is the lord’s favorite dessert. Also, there is a positive vibe enveloping the entire environment. People worship, sing devotional songs, chant different mantras, perform aartis in his honor, and seek his blessings.

Let's emphasize Lord Ganesha's significance.

Lord Ganesha, the God of intellect and wisdom, is an exceptionally unique and revered deity who is profoundly worshiped by everyone, loved the most by children.

He is also known by various names. Each name highlights a different powerful aspect about him...
Vighnaharta - Remover of all obstacles
Ekdanta - Single tusked God
Gajanana - Elephant faced God
Heramb- One who gives confidence to the weak and hope to the poor.
Lambodara - Lord with huge belly
Siddhivinayak - Bestower of success

His physical attributes alone are loaded with symbolism that teaches us a lot.

The enormous elephant head of Lord Ganesha symbolizes wisdom.

His small eyes symbolizes focus i.e. in order to succeed at anything, one needs to have persistent concentration and foresightedness.

His large ears and small mouth serve as a reminder to listen more and speak less.

Lord Ganesha's huge belly symbolizes the entire universe and it's magical quality of embracing everything in life whether good or bad.

His two tusks represent different facets of life. The left tusk stands for emotion, and the right tusk is for wisdom. And the broken left tusk symbolizes one must conquer emotions with wisdom.

The trunk of Lord Ganesha symbolizes both strength and kindness.
For instance, we have seen elephants uproot trees (strength) and gently lift people with their trunks as well as bestowing blessings on everyone with their trunk (kindness).
The image of Lord Ganesha has a mouse as his chariot. Why does Ganesha have a mouse-shaped chariot despite having such a large body?
Have you ever given it a thought?
Mouse is known for its disturbed restless hyperactive nature which strongly correlates with the qualities of human mind.
In the image, Lord Ganesha is shown sitting over the mouse and controlling it.
Similarly, like Lord Ganesha we should be able to govern our minds with our intellect.

Let's make an effort to incorporate all of these teachings into our daily lives, and while celebrating this wonderful festival let's not forget to spend  few moments peacefully with Lord Ganesha's heavenly form and try to bring together our energies with his higher energy, which will transform us into a new, blissful being.
The Lord Ganesha statue is submerged into the water to mark the end of the event.
It's incredibly moving to see people with teary eyes and praying hands asking the Lord for his return next year. We all know that - Waiting for someone is the hardest thing of all, but waiting for Lord Ganesha to arrive is an emotion that cannot be described in words.
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 🙏

Restless Nights: The Lessons of Success and Failure

The Night of the Big Race Guhan had trained harder than ever for the annual school race. He was determined to win. But as he dashed toward the finish line, disaster struck—he tripped! His friend Manohar zoomed past him and won the race. That night, Guhan lay awake in bed, his heart heavy with disappointment. He kept thinking about the moment he fell, wondering if he could have done something differently. Sleep refused to come. But instead of giving up, Guhan decided to train even harder. He woke up the next morning with a new determination—he would try again next year. The following year, Guhan practiced tirelessly. When race day arrived, he ran like the wind, and this time, he didn’t stumble. He crossed the finish line first! That night, Guhan lay in bed, once again unable to sleep—but this time, it wasn’t sadness that kept him awake. It was pure excitement! He kept replaying the moment of victory in his head, imagining the gold medal around his neck. And now, he realized— He couldn...

A Coin of Compassion, A River of Blessings.

Once in a village, there lived a rich man who was kind and spiritual. One day, while walking on the road, he saw a beggar and felt sad. He asked God, “Why is life so unfair? Why must people suffer like this?” Feeling pity, the rich man gave the beggar his gold chain and bracelet and said, “Don’t beg again. Use this to start a better life.” The beggar was happy and planned to sell the gold and begin a small business. But on the way, two thieves stole the gold and ran away. The next day, the rich man saw the beggar begging again. Angry and confused, he asked why. The beggar explained about the theft. Feeling sorry, the rich man gave him a diamond ring and said, “This time, be careful.” The beggar hid the ring in an old mud pot at home, planning to sell it the next day. With the money, he hoped to buy a new, spacious house and start a good business to earn a living. That night, his wife took the pot to fetch water, not knowing the ring was inside. She washed the pot at the river, and the ...

The Morning That Changed Everything

In the peaceful hill town of Almora, there lived a cheerful man named Uncle Kabir. He had lost both his legs in a terrible accident many years ago. But every morning, Uncle Kabir would roll out in his wheelchair to the park near his house. He smiled at the birds, waved at the trees, and greeted every child going to school and every grown-up rushing to work. “Good morning! Have a great day!” he would say with a big smile. People loved seeing Uncle Kabir. His smile was like sunshine. Children would wave back, and even the busiest people would stop to smile and wish him well. It became a happy routine—no one wanted to start their day without seeing Uncle Kabir. Arjun lived in the same town, but joy never touched him. He worked long hours in a cold office, buried under loans and deadlines. His face stayed tense, his eyes dull. Life moved around him, but his own felt like a sea without waves—still, silent, and heavy. No tides of joy, no ripples of surprise. Just a flat, endless stretch of r...
