It all comes from within, and what's inside reflects outside.
I want everyone of you to take a piece of paper and list at least ten things that can bring you happiness before you begin reading this article.
One might say that they will be happy if -
- they have outstanding results,
- they get admission into the top university,
- they own a car,
- they buy a large house,
- they have a loving partner,
- they have a high-paying career,
- they have a lovely family that is supportive too etc...
Hold on. If you can't get your hands on everything you listed on your list, don't you believe your happiness will perish? Of course it will, because it's natural to get sad if you don't get what you want, right?
So what can we do to stay happy forever?
It's very simple.
Just put an end to thinking that..."I will be happy if _____."
Release yourself from the trap of relying on someone or something to be happy.
Happiness starts within you, and it has nothing to do with relationships, jobs, money, or status.
What happens usually is that we try to reach a milestone; after we reach that milestone, we often start seeking the next one, which brings us back to the initial thought of "I will be happy when..." and the cycle goes on and on all over again.
Let's read a lovely tale that will help us understand what true happiness is.
A crow lived in the forest very happily. But one day, he saw a swan and was stunned by its beauty. Crow thought to himself, "The swan is so white, and I am so black. The swan must be the happiest bird in the world.”
The crow expressed his thoughts about the swan, to which the swan replied, "I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot that has two colors,"
I now believe that the parrot is the world's happiest bird.
The crow then approached the parrot and expressed his thoughts, for which the parrot exclaimed, “I lived a very happy life until I saw a peacock. I have only two colors, but the peacock has multiple colors."
After listening to this, the crow went to see the peacock in the zoo and noticed that a large crowd was gathered to see him. The crow went up to the peacock after the people had left and expressed his opinion.
The crow said, "Dear Peacock, You are so lovely. Thousands of people come to see you each day. People quickly shoo me away when they notice me. You seem like the world's happiest bird to me."
In response, the peacock said, "I've always believed that I'm the most gorgeous, joyful bird on the entire earth. But dear crow, can't you see that I'm stuck in this zoo because of my beauty? After closely examining the zoo, I've come to the conclusion that the only bird not housed in a cage is the crow. For the last few days, I've been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.
After hearing this, the crow realized how fortunate he was in comparison to all of these other birds.
The crow thanked the peacock for enlightening him and flew away happily.
From this story we can make out that -
People who lack gratitude quickly start complaining about everything. Never let your desires cause you to lose sight of what you already have. There is a reason why certain things are the way they are.
The state of happiness is subjective. Everybody has their own definition of what it means to live a fulfilling and happy life.
However, there are some universal truths that will enable us to live a happy and content life -Make internal modifications and you'll be amazed at how your life appears to magically transform on the outside.
When you are happy from within, your heart is happy, and when your heart is happy...
Life feels balanced,
Things look peaceful.
Everything is in harmony.
For it is rightly said, "Happiness is a state of mind."
