If I ask you all "Do you have everything that you need in your life?" I am sure your answer will be "No" with some extensions added to it saying "I need this, I need that etc etc." In short at present, we are not happy and content with what we have with us. We hardly realize that our life is already full and complete but the problem is we are not thankful for what we have and lose the small joys in hope for the bigger happiness. We are simply running behind our big wishes, needs and career without even noticing the real happiness that we have beside us.
It doesn't mean that you need to stop and sit and enjoy your life with what you have. It means you need to be slow, feel content, spend time with what you are blessed with and steadily move forward in your life.
We humans struggle for no reason i.e once our needs are fulfilled we stress ourselves and start hunting for luxuries. Progress is a good thing in one's life but it should not happen at the cost of our own real happiness and peace of mind.
Here I'm sharing this wonderful story to make this concept more clear.
*It was a cold winter evening. A hungry beggar went to the house of a rich man and asked for food.
The rich man invited the beggar in and gave him hot soup. The beggar had the soup very quickly since he was very hungry.
When the beggar finished the soup, the rich man asked, "Do you want more to eat?"
"No thanks, that was enough, I'm full." The beggar answered.
But the rich man gave the beggar a large plate of meal.
The beggar finished the meal quickly again.
Again the rich man asked "Do you want more to eat?"
"No thanks, that was enough, I'm full." The beggar answered.
The rich man didn't stop. He brought some delicious dessert and gave it to the beggar.
The beggar at once finished the dessert as well.
After observing all this the rich man asked "Why did you lied to me?" Everytime I asked you if you want some more to eat you said that's enough, your stomach is full but whenever I served you more food you finished it very quickly.
The beggar smiled and looked around and found an empty box.
He brought the empty box and filled it with pebbles and asked the rich man "Is this box full?"
The rich man answered "Yes, it is full."
Now the beggar put some sand into the box filled with pebbles and asked the rich man "Is this box full?"
The rich man answered "Yes, it is full."
Now the beggar brought a pail of water and poured it into the box filled with pebbles and sand and asked the rich man "Is this box full?"
The rich man answered "Yes, it is full."
The beggar now explained "You see, each time I asked you whether the box is full, you said yes it is full.
It's the same thing that happened with the food that you gave me. There will always be room for more.
Even if you would have given me only soup I would have been full, content and happy for the day and enjoyed the evening to the fullest instead of running door to door for some more food*
Here are some lessons that we should learn from this story..
- Never leave everyone and everything behind and run lifetime to fulfill your never ending needs.
- Practice the art of acceptance.
- Take a good look at your life in all areas- make time for your loved ones, friendship, health and get in touch with your soul.
-Be thankful for what you have and live happily, you will end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never ever have enough in your life.
Always keep in mind--
"Whether you drive a BMW or Maruti, the road remains the same..
Whether you fly business or economy class, your destination doesn't change..
Whether you wear Titan or Rolex, time remains the same..
Whether you use Samsung or Apple, the people who you call are the same..
There is nothing wrong about dreaming about a luxurious life, what needs to be seen is that need doesn't become greed..
Because Needs can always be met....
But Greed can never be fulfilled."
Have your needs be fulfilled and be a happy and content soul..
